HOLISTIC WELLNESS SUPPORT BY PETRA TAMAS
FERTILITY - PREGNANCY - BIRTH - POSTPARTUM

BIRTH DOULA SUPPORT
A birth doula is a person trained and experienced in childbirth who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to the mother before, during and just after childbirth. Like travel guides in a foreign country, birth and postpartum doulas help support new families through the life changing experience of having a baby! Whether it’s a family’s first baby or their tenth, a doula can help make the birth and postpartum experience better.
“There is ample research on the benefits of doulas at births. (Hodnett, 2013) When the American College ofObstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) and the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine (SMFM) released their groundbreaking “Safe Prevention of the Primary Cesarean Delivery” Obstetric Care Consensus Statement in February 2014, one of their key recommendations to reduce the primary cesarean rate in the USA was the continuous presence of a doula at a birth. (Caughey,2014)”
"If a woman doesn't look like a Goddess during labor, then someone isn't treating her right. " ~ Ina May Gaskin

"When you change the way you think about birth, the way you birth will change" ~ Marie Mongan
HELLO BEAUTIFUL PARENTS-TO-BE !
This is a life-changing journey you have started(maybe you have kids already, maybe it's the firsttime) It might feel amazing, exciting and new.And perhaps also a bit scary and unsettling. That’s all normal.Welcome to this new chapter with all its changes, challenges and humbling experiences.
During this journey, it’s super important to receive support that fits your needs and wishes.
Thank you for thinking about me when youthought about choosing a doula.
Every doula works differently, and I feel honored you feel drawn to receive my support throughout this transformational journey into parenthood.

How does this all work...
I meet with the mother and her partner a few times before the birth. I will be in contact with you during early labor and will come and be with you when your labour has started establishing into active labour. I will accompany both you and your partner throughout labor and delivery. I will provide physical and emotional support, comfort and pain-coping measures, encouragement, and aid your partner in being able to support you to the best of his ability.
I will advocate for the mother and her partner and help them make informed decisions. After the birth, I will visit you at your home or hospital to see if you need to debrief the birth or aid you with any resources you may need during the postpartum period.
I deeply understand, trust, and respect the process of labour and birth. My goal is to support the emotional and physical journey of the mother and her partner. At all times I strive to provide the best possible experience for the family that I am supporting and ease their transition into parenthood.
Before I share with you what your options are, I want to list all the things that my work stands for, and what I find important when I work with parents-to-be.
Pilars of my work
I find it important that you feel respected and that the information you share with me is safe with me. I will never share your information with other people before first talking to you. Your life, experiences and stories are treated with greatest care and respect if you work with me.
INTEGRITY |
Making sure you know your options is the core of my work. I will do everything in my power to help you understand the system you are in. I will protect and honor your choices throughout your pregnancy, birth and postpartum in the best ways possible.
INFORMED AGREEMENT |
I love science. I love practical. I love being calm yet fun. And I trust my intuition. I blend these to have a holistic yet down- to-earth approach to pregnancy, birth and postpartum work.
DOWN-TO-EARTH |
Every client is different. Therefore, my support is adapted to YOUR needs. I will always check in with you to see and hear what your needs are at any given moment, as I recognize this can change. I can stretch pretty far in seeing options and help you in the best ways possible, also if this means we will have to work a bit around the system — I do everything in my power to meet your needs, also if this means we have to bend (not break!) some rules
CLIENT-CENTERED SUPPORT & CARE|
I draw very clear boundaries in my work and I find it important to remain professional in any situation, at any given time. This is specifically of importance when I work with other health care professionals in hospitals and birth centers. I will always be cooperative and respectful, but also make sure the focus remains on you as a client.
PROFESSIONALISM |
Remaining realistic, centered and transparent is important to me. I will always communicate clearly with you what happens, what my intention is, and what the situation is. I do not make things prettier than they are if they are not. I will always be transparent and honest with you atany given moment. This is sometimes hard for people when they are not used to it, but this is how I work. To remain grounded in my work and be able to fully support you, I believe open and transparent communication is key.
I find it important to be a good match with my client and their partner, so we can work optimally together, and you get the most out of your experience and time working with me.
On the following pages you can find all your options. Please also note that I am open to adjust to your needs as much as possible. Feel free to contact me when you have any questions.

Postpartum doulas provide families information and support on infant feeding, emotional and physical recovery from childbirth, infant soothing, and coping skills for new parents. They might also help with light housework, fix a meal and help incorporate an older child into this new experience.
Please be aware
That, as your doula, I am not officially allowed to:
-Support your birth by myself without another medical professional present
-Check your dilation progress.
-Check the baby’s heartbeat.
-Make any medical decisions.
I will not perform these procedures, also not on your request. These are tasks your midwife/OB gyn will do.
I am independently self-employed as a doula, I work for the pregnant/birthing person and their partner, not her caregiver or hospital/birth center.
I can provide reassurance and perspective to both you and your partner, make suggestions for labour progress, and help with techniques such as acupressure, breathing techniques, aromatherapy, homeopathy, yoga to improve better posture, reflexology/massage, rebozo, re-positioning a mal-positioned baby, personal coaching and intuitive care.
The care I provide you with is adapted to YOUR needs - I will coach you emotionally, psychologically and physically where needed.

ABOUT ME & MY JOURNEY INTO THE BIRTH WORLD
Hello! My name is Petra. I was born in Hungary and moved to Malta in 2015. I’m a motherto two healthy, smart and beautiful girls. I always felt fascinated by the female body. I love everything about feminine energy and the power our bodies as women holds.
My journey into the world of birthing and becoming a doula began when I had my first child Mila. She was born in the hospital. It was a birth filled with confusion, fear, disruptions and postpartum anxiety - the way all births & postpartum periods are NOT meant to be. My family wasn’t around , of course I had my husband helping me , but I was still missing that wise & calming feminine support we should all receive during birth & in the “fourth trimester.”
After feeling so lost I started to educate myself about the fourth trimester/postpartum period, natural & gentle birth approach and I’ve got very interested in home birth. When I got pregnant again I decided to have a birth at home, in our bedroom and also tohave a doula support me through this important time in my life.
It was a game changer!

When the day has come and my little Isla decided to start her journey to Earth side I was prepared - I had a midwife and my doula helping me. The midwife wasn’t always supportive and at the moment of transition I remember my fears creeping up on me... I gazed into my reassuring doula’s eyes which gave me the strength to keep going and keep going. My doula stayed with me for the whole time making sure that my confidence in my body’s abilities weren’t diminished in any way.
I birthed Isla naturally with no intervention needed. I was so inspired and fascinated with the strength and confidence having a doula there gave me in comparison to my first birth and became inspired to want to give other women that same belief in their bodies and their ability to birth naturally that I got.
Pregnancy, birth and motherhood formed me in so many ways. I realized we have moved away from village-mindedness, and it’s mothers who suffer the most. It takes a village to raise a child, and it takes a village to raise a mother! That's why my aim is to support and give my clients the trust to believe in their bodies and themselves , to believe in their abilities to handle anything and to let them gain the knowledge to the array of choices that are available so that they can make informed decisions when it comes to their pregnancy, birth & postpartum.
